It has been my wish to dine in this resto because the original location in Pasig was simply inaccessible for me. Am glad they opened in the bustling foodie strip called Burgos Circle in Forbestown Center since last year. (Prior to our visit, the only eatery we’ve tried in Burgos Circle was the Kebab Factory which unfortunately couldn’t compare with the authentic Middle Eastern restaurants in Ermita ) The first thing that catches the eye about the cafe is its shabby chic interiors. The decor’s sure to make good conversational pieces. The soft lighting casts a romantic glow which makes the resto a great date place.

But am not about to join those who’ve made rave reviews about the place. In fact, I think it’s a bit overrated, food-wise. I would happily go back there again to try the other dishes though, and for a slice of their heavenly sticky toffee pudding served with a single scoop of vanilla ice cream and lip-smackin’ caramel sauce. It was simply delish!

For our main course, we ordered beef kaldereta, one of the house bestsellers. The dish tasted like what I would cook at home myself, and it’s no surprise really because the resto prides itself as a bastion of home cooking.

I didn’t quite know what to expect with their Pinoy Ratatoy (their version of ratatouille). And out came a dish of sliced onions, tomatoes, capers, egg plant and other veggies in olive oil. Hubby liked this, but I must have swallowed on a sliver of pepper which gave me the worst chili attack ever 25 sips of water later and my mouth was still stinging. Never again, Ratatoy!

Their fresh Vietnamese lumpia was quite the disappointment. There was only shrimps, finely chopped lettuce, and none of the usual ingredients. Moral lesson: I should know better than to order Vietnamese food in a non-Vietnamese restaurant. In my opinion, Cafe Juanita can also do better sticking to an all-Filipino menu, rather than attempt to “fusionize” things

Other than these, service was very good. It helped that we were the earliest customers for their evening shift too. This was one resto where we didn’t have to beg for a glass of water, and the waiter even gave me a stool for my bag. I hate going to parties especially when it’s full of people I don’t know. Acquaintances are forgettable and I’m a forgetful person. Blame it on drugs. The legal ones.The problem is, everybody’s on Facebook and although a part of me doesn’t want to be there, the need to be there is unavoidable. So far, so good.But unfortunately, there are those things that irritate me and I can’t help but share it with you because I know some if not most of you share the same sentiment.Maldito posted a similar entry last week and commenting on his post is not enough that’s why I have to write a full entry on this. Hahaha!1. Tagging. Some friends upload photos and tags everybody even if they’re not in the said photo. Funny photos are acceptable because everybody needs a good laugh. I have this one friend who travels frequently and when he uploads his travel photos he tags everyone in his friends list , like saying ‘I have been to this place’. Like I care kung saang impyerno ka nagpunta?2. Game invites. Okay, you might not like the next few statements but I have to tell you I hate Facebook games so please spare me the invitations and all. I think it’s unhealthy and stupid to create a virtual farm with so many plant species on the same area. In reality, you can’t have a certain specie beside another specie because they have different needs. Watermelon needs water a lot, while mangoes prefer a warmer climate. So next time you plan to invite me as your neighbor, DON’T! 3. Bizaare status updates. People like other people to know what they’re doing at the moment. I admit, guilty din ako sa ganitong gawain, but some people go beyond the extreme and it’s quite disturbing to the point that they might actually need a shrink. I once commented on a friend’s bizaare status update, the next thing I know I’m being ‘interviewed’ by the girlfriend. Hello? Get a life.4. Likes. Status updates that are funny, witty, intelligent and quotable deserved to be liked. But some friends tend to like one’s status update even if it’s just plain ‘good morning’, ‘good evening’, ‘is sitting’, ‘is walking’, the list goes on. Ano ba! Do you need to like everybody’s status update so they will like yours too? Kaloka! Hahaha!5. Fan invites.
